LASER HAIR REMOVAL AND TATTOO REMOVAL

At the Kay Aesthetic Dermatology Laser Center, we have 3 different hair removal lasers to treat all body areas as well as most skin colors. These lasers are able to remove virtually all types of hair, except white and grey colors. Because some body areas respond much faster and more completely than others, a series of treatments is usually necessary.

By using the correct laser for your specific type of skin, the laser specialists at the Kay Laser Center are confident that you will have virtually no downtime or side effects after each laser treatment. It is always best to have your laser treatments at a laser physician's office.

The first "color" lasers used at Kay Laser Center were used for tattoo removal. These color lasers replaced older dermatology methods such as deep Dermabrasion. Laser tattoo removal works by focusing laser energy through the outer layer of skin and directly at the tattoo ink, breaking down the ink particles, which are then naturally absorbed by the body. Even though tattoo removal lasers require more treatments than the older methods, there is now no scarring and the healing is quicker.

The best lasers we have for removing the dark colors such as blue and black are the Neodynium-Yag (Nd-YAG) lasers. Red tattoo color is also removed well by this laser but the alexandrite lasers are a little better for red and not as good for dark tattoo colors. To further confuse the issue, there are many modern tattoo colors which cannot be removed well by any laser. The Versapulse brand laser was the best for tattoo removal because it combined 2 different tattoo removal lasers in one machine. Unfortunately, these lasers are no longer being made. For now, we all use the Nd-YAG laser which can remove the vast majority of the tattoo pigment. It is recommended not to get a tattoo with many bright colors as it is unlikely any laser can remove all of it.
